In the spring of 1968 Don Hood offered me the opportunity to play “french” horn when school started the following fall. Little did he realize this beginning band student would be offering the same opportunity to other children so many years later. I continue to practice and perform on the horn all over the Houston area. In addition to my teaching duties, I am the principal horn of the Clear Lake Symphony and have been featured as a soloist with the Houston Civic Symphony, the Galveston Symphony and as recent as 2006, I was featured as soloist once again with the Clear Lake Symphony. During the summer months I am usually playing horn in the pit of the Wortham Center as the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston presents a show.

Just after being hired to teach band at Westbury Christian, I attended the Four States Praise camp in Canefield, Arkansas where I was able to collect an assortment of new songs to use in worship with the Church of Christ in Deer Park where I am the deacon charged with coordinating the singing for the church. Understanding the importance of printed music in the great songs of our heritage, I regularly transfer song music and lyrics to PowerPoint presentations to be used in our weekly services.

Having taught only 29 years, I was not yet ready to leave my previous job in public education but came to visit Westbury following a recommendation from an individual I had never met. Following this interview last May, I drove home and resigned my position with Deer Park to come begin my 30th year of teaching at Westbury. Mr. Glenn gave me a copy of "Kingdom Education" and following the reading of the book, I believe my life has been a preparation for this opportunity and believing God is very active in our lives today viewed the recommendation from an unknown as notification it was time for a change. My prayer is that God will work through me so I may become a blessing to the children having an opportunity to play in band at Westbury.
